But a thousand words can also produce a picture. An engineering model or drawing is a pictorial representation of design parameters. Engineers and designers deal with changing parameters, and these need to be reflected in their designs. Sometimes it's easier to change the drawings in a CAD application, sometimes the data in a spreadsheet or database, but in any case these changes need to remain synchronized..
Graphics and Data Exchange
Traditional CAD applications allow drawings to be annotated and outfitted with extractable text attributes, for example to produce a materials list. The materials list may result in a spreadsheet that can be viewed and edited. But if the data in the spreadsheet is changed, how can we be sure necessary changes are applied to the original drawing?
